3、 AbstractWith the growing scale and complexity of power system, the power system dynamic stability issue became a critical problem. The inter-area low frequency oscillations caused by the interconnection of weakly couple

4、d power systems threaten the security and stability of the interconnected power systems badly. When the event of low frequency oscillations, it will cause the tie lines over-current tripping or between systerm and the sy

5、sterm or unit and the systerm out of step separation. It will cause one or more area large scale blackouts,makes the production and daily life to came to palsy and confusion, breeds disastrous loss to people’s life and n

6、ational economy. It is an urgent task to investigate the mechanism and influencing factors of the inter-area low frequency oscillations, and design effective measures to damp the inter-area oscillations. This article

7、 briefly introduces the formation mechanism and analysis method of low frequency oscillations. It explain the characteristic analysis method and the selective modal analysis method of power system low frequency oscillati

8、ons detaily. The text also derived formulas of the eigenvalue, the eigenvectors, the relevant factor, related mechanical and electrical circuit ratio. The selective modal analysis method achives the reduce-order calculat

9、ion for the electromechanical modes, but its calculation precision isn’t higher and sometimes it may lose eigenvalues.In this paper, it gives the basic characteristics and application of MATLAB/Simulink and introduces MA
