2、nteraction of two cultures. Cultural misreading, which results from cultural discrepancy and translator’s subjectivity, truly reflects where the blockade and conflict in the cultural communication is. Cultural misreading

3、 is an objective phenomenon that exists in the entire process of translation. From the perspective of cultural communication and exchanges，the study on this phenomenon is of positive significance. Therefore，as an inevita

4、ble phenomenon in literary translation, it needs to be treated comprehensively. On the basis of analysis and integration of domestic and international research on cultural misreading, this paper adopts this topic as the

5、object of study and intends to make a comprehensive analysis and discussion on this objective phenomenon in the light of the practice of literary translation. According to the reasons and expressions of cultural misreadi

6、ng, it can be divided into two types of misreading——interpretational misreading and purposeful misreading. This paper points out that people should adopt an objective attitude to make an overall analysis of the effect an

7、d influence of cultural misreading on literary translation and cultural communication. Interpretational misreading causes destructive effect absolutely; while purposeful misreading can cause either creative effect or des

8、tructive effect relatively in the different cultural and historical background. Meanwhile, in order to reduce cultural misreading in literary translation, this paper puts forward corresponding avoidance methods for diffe

9、rent types of misreading. It is to be hoped that this paper will draw more attention from the translation circle to the phenomena, and make contribution to the development of literary translation. Key words Literary tr
