2、the transition from the traditional society to the modern society, the evolvements of the gentry, who were regarded as the monopolies of the cultural capital of the feudal society, had a far-reaching impact on the transi
3、tion of education, and Hunan behaved particularly obviously as the typical province of modern gentry's right. Before the Sino-Japanese War broken out in 1894, the traditional gentry’s inherent complex to defend the m
4、oral principles of Confucianism expanded sharply because of the glorious achievement gained by the Hunan Army, at the same time the fogyish consciousness of the inhabitants in Hunan province was publicized further by the
5、 gentry grew up by the military exploit abruptly .They took resuming the old ruling order of feudalism as their own duty, thus the traditional education presented a prosperous vision in this phase. The failure of the Sin
6、o-Japanese War of 1894-1895 facilitated the awakening of the gentry in Hunan.With the intensification of the national crisis, the consciousness to save the nation from extinction was run high unprecedented, while calling
7、 for new knowledges and reforms became the common psychological understanding of the gentry in Hunan province in this period. They transformed to get benefits humbly and learn from the west, instead of mocking at the for
