1、 The purpose of the present study is to investigate the factors that may well jeopardize CET-SET validity, based on a framework suggested by Lyle F. Bachman and the CET-SET testing syllabus. The study analyses the resu

2、lts of a survey consisting of two questionnaires delivered respectively to 100 CET-SET candidates and 20 CET-SET authorized examiners who participated in the November 2003 CET Spoken English Test administered in Fujian P

3、rovince. The main findings are as follows: There are a number of factors that might affect candidates' performance in CET-SET. These factors involve random factors, personal attributes of the test taker and test method

4、 facets. Another influence is the interactionamong candidates themselves. In CET-SET, candidates should do some group work,that is, to have a discussion, during which they have to cooperate with each other tocarry out

5、 the task. Therefore, familiarity with other candidates in the same group,difference in language proficiency, and the extent to which they are involved in theactivity might have effect on candidates' performance. A third

6、 impact involves thetime candidates spend waiting for the test. Though examiners might have differentopinion, according to candidates' responses to Questionnaire I, the time they have towait may greatly affect their perf

7、ormance in CET-SET; and the longer they have towait, the greater the impact might be. The last, and also the most important factor,involves the input. According to CET-SET syllabus, different forms of input are usedto se
